Wooden bookcases are things I love, mainly because I do have many books and I love reading. However, just because you don't have a lot of books or don't like reading, you could still have need for a bookcase in at least one room in your home. The reason bookcases are so versatile is they are not just for books! Now there's a revelation for you. Who would have thought a bookcase could have been for anything else! More and more you will find bookcases used as open display cabinets. People display their cherished items, family photos and even their I-pods or music systems on them.
Therefore, you can begin to see just how versatile a bookcase could be. The beauty of them is they can be placed in any room or any spare corner. Wooden bookcases could be at home in a kitchen with cookery books and cooking paraphernalia and it could be equally at home in your hallway. There really are no hard and fast rules about where a bookcase should be placed. Some people would even have a bookcase in the smallest room in the house if they had the space! Whilst that may not be for everyone it shows you can put them absolutely anywhere.

So, what of the concept of using wooden bookcases for displaying items? They do lend themselves to this use perfectly. You get a lot of display space to put your things, ornaments and picture frames mixed together. People like to have memories of happy times on display and that is what you will find on many bookcases. Whereas we once had china cabinets or curio cabinets, we now go for bookcases to display things. Both the china cabinet and curio cabinet still have their place but the wooden bookcases are such beautiful items that they are popular today.
Of course, you can keep books on your bookcase, whether it is treasured signed first editions or books you need for work or university. A bookcase can sit happily alongside your dining table and sideboard and it can sit alongside your hall console table. Wooden bookcases can look great in a bedroom with a sprinkling of books and mementos on it and maybe some flowers in a bud vase. You may imagine that bookcases are not very decorative items and it's fair to say many aren't. You can choose to put anything you like on them to make them stand out in the way you want.
A bookcase can even be used to store boxed shoes or CD's and DVD's if you have a large collection. One thing is certain, wooden bookcases are something that all of us could own and find a use for. The size range and the types of wood is personal choice but there is a huge choice out there. You can go for the darkest wood hues to the lightest or even painted finishes. There is something glorious looking about large natural wooden bookcases catching the sunlight with your treasures on display. Therefore, even if you have never owned a book or picked one up to read, you could still have a place for a bookcase in your home.
